ABOUT THE COURSE

This course offers the opportunity for Music 1 stage 6, and Music 2 stage 6 students who are undertaking their High School Certificate (HSC) in music to broaden their musical concept, and strengthen/develop their musicianship and aural skills in preparation for the upcoming Higher School Certificate.

Each class will focus on different topics with supplementary materials to support the musical concepts studied. The class involves:

• Listening to a wide range of repertoire

• Class and group discussion

• Working through past HSC papers

• One on one assistance

THE FOLLOWING ABILITIES AND SKILLS WILL BE TREMENDOUSLY DEVELOPED DURING THE COURSES:

• The ability to listen and perceive music within the context of different styles, periods and genres

• Analyse music focusing on a range of musical concepts: duration, pitch, dynamic and expressive techniques, tone colour, texture and structure

• Develop ability to synthesise ideas and evaluate music critically

• Develop skills to discriminate between sounds and comment on their use with aspect of styles

• Interpret and discuss musical ideas through score observation and analysis 

• Explore and evaluate conceptual links including unity, contrast, and tension in music
